1. The Production Side: Energy Consumption
Let’s start with the energy part. Aluminum die casting is an energy – hungry process. First off, we’ve got to melt the aluminum. Aluminum has a relatively high melting point of around 660°C (1,220°F). To reach and maintain this temperature in our furnaces, we need a lot of energy. Most of the time, this energy comes from fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, or oil.
Using these fossil fuels releases a ton of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is the big one. It’s a major contributor to global warming. When we burn coal or gas to heat the furnaces, every puff of smoke contains CO₂, and over time, all these little puffs add up to a huge amount.
But it’s not just the melting process. The die casting machines themselves also need power to operate. They’ve got motors, pumps, and all sorts of electrical components that keep them running. And that power usually comes from the grid, which is often still powered by fossil fuels in many places.

And let’s not forget about the waste from the die lubricants. Die lubricants are used to prevent the aluminum from sticking to the mold. But after they’re used, they can’t be reused. These lubricants often contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. 3. Air Pollution
Air pollution is a real concern in aluminum die casting. When we melt the aluminum, it releases fumes. These fumes contain a variety of substances, including aluminum oxide, which is a fine particulate matter. Inhaling these particles can be bad for human health, especially for those working in the foundries. Long – term exposure can lead to respiratory problems, like asthma and lung cancer.
There are also other pollutants in the fumes. For example, if the aluminum contains impurities, like magnesium or zinc, these can be released as volatile compounds when the aluminum is melted. Some of these compounds are toxic and can cause environmental damage.

To prevent water pollution, we have water treatment facilities on – site. These facilities remove the contaminants from the water using a variety of processes, like filtration, sedimentation, and chemical treatment. After the water is treated, it can be reused in the cooling system, which also helps us save water.
5. Noise Pollution
Let’s talk about noise pollution for a bit. The die casting process is noisy. The die casting machines make a lot of noise when they’re operating. The clanging of the molds, the hissing of the hydraulic systems, and the general hum of the equipment can reach high decibel levels.
